Air source heat pump FAQs

Will a heat pump lower my energy bills?

There are many factors that contribute to whether you’ll be able to save money on your energy bills, such as:

  • Your electricity tariff –  we offer a range of air source heat pump tariffs, including the Heat Pump & Save Tracker tariff, which has no standing charge!
  • The type of heat pump you install
  • The design of your central heating system
  • Your location and its average air or ground temperatures throughout the year

Your energy bill savings will also depend on the system you’re replacing. According to Energy Saving Trust, replacing an old (G-rated) gas boiler with an air-source heat pump could currently save you up to £290(7).

Can a heat pump work in cold temperatures?
Heat pumps work more efficiently when it’s warmer which means they’ll have to work a bit harder when it’s cold. However, the heat pumps we can offer still work effectively at -25°C.
How long does it take to install a heat pump?

The heat pump that’s installed is bespoke to your home. After speaking with a specialist and designing the right heat pump for you, it will take around 3-5 days to install. To read more about air source heat pump installations, visit our installation guide.

Will I need to replace my radiators?

In some cases, we’ll recommend installing larger radiators. If you have old or single panel radiators, you may need to replace your radiators for double or triple panel radiators to increase the surface area. Radiator upgrades are important as they’ll improve the efficiency of your heat pump and reduce running costs.

Are heat pumps noisy?
You can expect the noise to be a similar volume to a fridge. As it gets colder outside, this noise will increase while it’s operating. However, you shouldn’t be able to hear the sound indoors.
How long is the warranty for an air source heat pump?

It depends on the heat pump you install. A Daikin heat pump comes with a manufacturer’s warranty of up to 7 years and an Ideal heat pump comes with a 5 year warranty.
